FRAUD ALERTS AND SCAMS!!!
A recent phishing e-mail, appearing to be from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), is targeting consumers, and their fear of security relating to the recent TJX Companies data breach. Please remember that neither CUNA or the NCUA will contact you via email and ask for personal information.
Fraud Alert
CUNA is aware of new phishing emails in the form of surveys asking for feedback on your financial institution. These messages are scams and should be deleted. The messages offer awards up to $500, but there is no monetary award for filling out the form -- this is an identity theft scam.
CUNA will never solicit e-mails requesting your credit union user name, password, pin number, or other personal identity information.
Alert (Phishing Scam)
There has been a recent increase in the number of fraudulent emails and faxes called phishers. Service Centers Corporation had informed us of a current Phishing Scam asking you for sensitive personal information using the name of Credit Union Service Centers, SCC or CU Service Centers. Please do not respond to this or any other email asking you for such information. (please read below)
Hundreds of consumers have found themselves the victims of an e-mail scam known as "phishing."
It involves high-tech fraudsters who pretend to be a legitimate financial institution or credit card company. Hiding behind the anonymity of the Internet, the fraudsters send out "official-looking" emails designed to trick consumers into divulging financial and personal information such as account numbers, passwords, user names, Social Security Numbers, and other sensitive data. In most cases, the e-mail claims there is an account problem or warns of a possible account fraud threat. Either way---the whole idea is to convince the consumer there is an immediate need to update their financial information
If you receive an e-mail from Munising Community Credit Union requesting financial information or any other personal or sensitive data:
- Treat the e-mail with suspicion.
- Do not reply to the e-mail or respond by clicking on a link within the e-mail message. Munising Community Credit Union will never ask you to provide any kind of confidential or financial details via an email request.
- Contact Munising Community Credit Union as soon as possible to report the suspicious e-mail.
